A Message from Scarecrows – The Oving Hogmanay Hoot
A Message from Scarecrows
Season’s greetings,
This year swept in like a hurricane, leaving us all breathless. We are all having to adapt and Oving Scarecrows is no exception. Disappointed at being unable to see you all in May, we’ve decided that we will try something different to bring our community together this year and so we bring you…. The Oving Hogmanay Hoot.
It’s been a tough old year but it has surprised us too by bringing some good things in its wake, not least the friendliness and neighbourly support on show, especially here in Oving which quickly rallied help for those who needed it. Come the 31st, we will inevitably be thinking about family and friends we have been unable to meet this year, but perhaps we can also look forward to the new year with some hope that the end is at least in sight. We thought it would be lovely if we could all take ten minutes out on 31st to thank our community and to wish neighbours a happy new year. So, this is Our Plan.
As you know we are all about families and children so none of this midnight nonsense! At 6pm on 31st we hope as many of you as can, will step outside your doors, carrying a candle, or lamp, or torch, to celebrate our brilliant community and wish your neighbours a happy new year. We hope you will also raise your voices in a communal rendition of Auld Lang Syne, or if you happen to play an instrument then play it. I understand that the version in G major is a good one to aim for. Once the song is over, children (of all ages) may want to toot a horn or whistle, bang a drum or a pot, anything you like that will make a noise! We will clearly be in Tier 4 by then so please, please keep a safe distance to protect everyone, and note that the “here’s a hand” verse, we hope for this New Year only, means jazz hands only. No touching please. For those that need them, the words are below.
It would be wonderful to see Oving lit up in such hope for the forthcoming year. So do please join us and spread the word amongst your friends and neighbours in the village so that everyone can join in the fun and we really do light up the village.
See you at 6pm on 31 st!
The Scarecrows Team
AULD LANG SYNE
Verse 1
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne?
Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For days of auld lang syne
Verse 2
And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere
And gie’s a hand o’ thine
And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught
For auld lang syne
Chorus – repeat twice
